Mandatory Fun tracks

Post by TMBJon »

Hey Jon, which of the 12 tracks on Mandatory Fun is your favorite? Which one did you have the most (mandatory) fun making?

I'm hesitant to say anything at this point, because I don't want to sway anyone's opinion. But I do have original faves, and a particular favorite parody.

I don't know if 'fun' is really the right word when it comes playing or programming my parts, it's all work, often a LOT of work. But I have a lot of personal satisfaction and get to shine on just about every track on the album, and I'm very proud of my work on this album in particular.

Now that the tracks & info have leaked, I will reveal my faves.

Parody: Word Crimes. The lyrics are great, the song is infectious, and the video is fabulous! 2nd fave would be Tacky, fun song, lyrics & video.

Originals: Lame Claim To Fame could be a hit on its own, but I think the originals compare favorably with each other, so I'd have to say they're all my faves! Sports Song is obviously a different thing compared to the other 5 'mainstream' tracks, but I like it as well because I got to show off my (old school) marching chops.

What was your reaction when you heard what SportsSong would be musically?

The first question was, would it be a modern 'drumline' vibe, or a traditional marching sound, like the Hogan's Heroes theme! It's somewhere in-between. :)

It's "Sports Song" the one that by-passed the band demo stage?

Thank you! (Re-reading my post, it would appear I've been listening to "Word Crimes" a bit too much - "It's" should have been "Is", but you all knew that!)
