Does anyone know why UHF is called The Vidiot From UHF in Australia

Because the term "UHF" refers to Ultra-High Frequency television signals, which is from channels 13 to 82 on a normal U.S. TV set.

But when the film was prepared for foreign release, Orion and its worldwide distributors realized that not all countries have the same television set-up as the U.S. For example, in England there's only eight non-cable channels, etc. So they had to retitle the movie. The "Vidiot" comes from the words "video" and "idiot," of course.

However, I've seen a few foreign video boxes titled simply as "UHF," so I don't know if the "Vidiot" title was abandoned in all countries for the video release.

And just FYI, in Quebec the film was retitled "Tele Ringards," and the Mexican version was called "Los Telelocos."

It's only being released as "Region 1" and as far as I know there's no plans to release it with other regions. However, I think most "Region 1" DVDs play in computer CD-Rom drives, so you can always try that.

If you can't get it locally, most websites (at least all the major ones) will ship to Australia.

For my site, one of the things I wanted to get done this year was a new anniversary section for "UHF" (it ain't gonna happen this year...got too many plates to spin documentary-wise) with a page listing addresses to write to in order get the movie on Blu-ray in the U.S. and Europe and on DVD in other parts of the world.

The last time I checked, these are the current snail mail addresses for Fox Home Entertainment (which now handles MGM's DVD releases worldwide) and for MGM's own home video division. I would recommend writing to Fox more than MGM, but if you're going to send a letter, it might be a good idea to hedge your bets and mail it to both addresses anyway...just in case.

(if I have formatted the addresses incorrectly, please let me know)

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment
Level 3, Frank Hurley Grandstand
Fox Studios Australia, Driver Avenue
Moore Park, NSW 1363

MGM Home Entertainment Group Australasia Pty Ltd.
Level 29, 2 Chifley Sq.
Sydney, NSW 2000
