The Essential "Weird Al" Yankovic

The only reason For anyone on here to buy it is for completeness and the liner notes. Neither of which you get buying through iTunes

Actually if those tracks on disc three are remastered, it could be worthwhile to get those tracks just to replace the old ones.

That's what I was thinking.

I'll buy the new Essentials eventually. Maybe it will be on my Christmas list or something.

I'd rather have the two disc. I like the Idea of "old to new" plus the second disc kind of takes care of the wait for a 3rd "hits" compilation. Doesn't make sense to me to go from old essentials, to new ones... then right back to old ones..

After about a half a year of nothing, Target stores are bringing back their "Essential 3.0" display. The one I was at tonight was selling Al's for $13.99, so if you never got around to buying it (or even seeing it in a store), this is perhaps the cheapest this CD will ever be. The majority of the other 3.0 titles Target is offering are $15 each and they are having some kind of deal where if you buy two of the $15 ones you save five bucks (so no, Al's wouldn't be a part of it).

Hm... just ordered a copy of 3.0 of eBay a couple of days ago simply because I have not once seen it in any store ever.

... on another note, I found the original release at Best Buy for $10.

How long is that Target sale going to last? and is that sale in Washington as well?

It doesn't look as if it was a temporary thing (the weird deal with the two $15 CDs might be limited, though). Usually when Target puts up their "Essential 3.0" display it stays around for a while.

Target prices are usually consistent through the whole chain, yes.

UPDATE: Al's CD is now priced at $15, so at least it can count toward their "buy two..." deal.

I just signed up for this forum. Anyway, I got back into Al's music with his new album, Mandatory Fun, but I also picked up this Essential set when I bought the new album. I think it does a pretty good job at compiling his songs from the past 30 years. I didn't have any of his albums on CD, but I had listened to him as a kid, up through Alapalooza, or maybe Bad Hair Day. There are so many songs on here I either had never heard (most of disc two) or hadn't heard in almost 20 years (mostly all of disc one). Granted, I'd seen the odd Al video here and there over the years, either on tv, or online, but I 'd just not bought any of music or listened to any of it, really. I can be a stubborn music fan, when I think I am done with or over an artist, I don't easily re-visit their music.

Anyway, it's good to get back into his music again. I think this set was put together with people like me in mind, who may have heard his music 20 - 25 years ago (or never), but had no idea of his newer stuff, so I am glad disc 2 is full of stuff from the mid-90's - 2006, which is when I was tuned out. I have started looking up his older albums the past few weeks, based on this collection. It's a great starting place! :amish:
