Haha, glad you all like it. Watch it on the episode too, if you have a chance. Conan calls him back out and Al creeps out from behind the curtain completely paranoid.
But okay, so. The story behind this. On Monday, while talking to my cousin, Rob Kutner, who writes for the show, I heard that Al was coming on the show today, but to keep it under wraps for the time being. Granted, I wanted nothing more than to run back to the forum and post it here, but I restrained myself. This morning I was told that I could finally leak the news to "Al fan sites," so I posted it here and on Twitter. So today after lunch, when I sat in on rehearsal, I saw this sketch. Everyone in the studio loved it! They ran through it a few times, then Al went back to his dressing room while they ran through the rest of the rehearsal. Rob beckoned me out of the audience and took me backstage to the dressing room they had set up for Al. He remembered me, and I congratulated him on the new album, telling him how awesome it was.
Plus, a little bit of an inside story into the "making of" for the sketch: Al's first draft of the song was censored. It originally talked a bit about the brief Tonight Show run, and took a few jabs at Leno, but, wanting to play it safe, Conaco requested that the lyrics be changed.

That was pretty good. I loved the new lyrics, and the look on Conan's face when Al sang the part about Conan ripping off the guy's face was priceless. I also lost it when Al came back out looking terrified.

There wasn't any promotion for Alpocalypse. That's kind of unfortunate. Yeah, it was a fun little spot and he has the introduction thing. I wasn't that impressed. Although, I have to admit, I've never been the biggest Conan fan anyway. Glad Al was on the show, though.
