TBITB: or the acronyms we use.

This topic is for newbies (or for the chronically clueless - like me.)

As a kind of shorthand Al fans tend to reduce song titles and frequently used phrases to acronyms. Ever wonder what they mean?

WAY = Weird Al Yankovic :sarcasm:
TBITB = The Boys In The Band. (Alternate version: The Best In The Business. Thanks Bruce The Duck!)

There's a whole list of them over at AMW-A (alt.music.weird-al) (URL corrected, thanks Dave!)

Oh yeah, not acronyms, but you may see these now and again:

Mecca = weirdal.com
The Mothership = weirdal.com
wa.com = weirdal.com

And there are a few in-jokes:
Innocuous Silhouettes
The Big Boys

Then have been a few non-Al ones that have puzzled me:
IIRC = If I Recall Correctly
GMTA = Great Minds Think Alike (I learned this one today - thanks Patti!)

Any others that should be here?

Common song abbreviations:

TSB-The Saga Begins

TDS-Truck Drivin' Song

IAATP-It's all about the Pentiums

YDLMA-You Don't Love Me Anymore

SLN-Smells Like Nirvana

HTWH-Harvey the Wonder Hamster

JP-Jurassic Park

DTBS-Dare to Be Stupid

ALbums:

RWS-Running with Scissors

PH-Poodle Hat

BHD-Bad Hair Day

WAY-"Weird Al" Yankovic

DTBS-Dare to Be Stupid

And instead of saying "That rocks!" we say "That polkas!"

Al polkas my world!

Algonacchick shared this one the other day:

TAFKATAFKAP = The Artist Formerly Known As The Artist Formerly Known As Prince. Or as I like to call him, the Purple One.

I'll let you guess who Humorless Candy-Rapper Boy is...

Then there is He Who Is Not To Be Mentioned.

Oh, and lest you be tempted to call Bermuda "Bermie", think again. He doesn't like it. I have seen him referred to as "Berm" but not in places where he is likely to see it. :lookround:

And there are some terms of endearment we use for Al:

The Great Weird One

Our Boy

His Royal Weirdness

Any others?

There's a whole list of them over at AMW-A (alt.music.weird-al) However the link seems to be down. Anyone have a better addy for it?
Try this.
GMTA = Great Minds Think Alike (I learned this one today - thanks Patti!)

OH! So that's what that means! The only thing I came up with didn't fit with the rest of Patti's post. And her husband would beat me up if I tried it. She'd probably slap me too. Hard.

Oh, really, Dave? Now you've got me curious.

Back to the acronyms:

IMHO ~ In My Humble *or Honest* Opinion

BRB ~ Be right Back *used in chat*

(W)TMI ~ (Way) Too Much Information - It's used with or without the word "Way", depending on the situation.

ttyl ~ talk to you later *another chat one*

ttfn ~ ta-ta for now *I use that*. I love Tigger! hehe!

Grab my tiny a--hey hey kids!!

wa.com = weirdal.com

This one always bothered me. If you actually go to wa.com. it's a web page trying to get you to sign up for some Internet Service Provider that, of course, has nothing to do with Weird Al. I'm all for acronyms, but for website addresses, I think they need to always be spelled out.

LOL! Well, thanks, Dave, for telling me that! I thought of something different myself.

Yeah, the wa.com one, I've never used that one.

NAF- Non-Al Fan

As in, "I played 'Trash Day' to some NAFs and they enjoyed it."
