2010 Grammys - "Internet Leaks" Nominated!

Post by TMBJon »

Congratulations, Al, on yet another Grammy nomination. This year the competition is even stiffer than it was in 2006 for "Straight Outta Lynwood" and with only an EP, I think his chances are pretty slim:

• Back From The Dead
Spinal Tap
[The Label Industry/Artist2Market Distribution]

• A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift Of All!
Stephen Colbert
[Comedy Central Records]

• Internet Leaks
"Weird Al" Yankovic
[Volcano]

• My Weakness Is Strong
Patton Oswalt
[Degenerate/Warner Bros.]

• Suckin’ It For The Holidays
Kathy Griffin
[Music With A Twist]

• Tall, Dark & Chicano
George Lopez
[Comedy Central Records]

Good luck, Al!

Congrats, Al!

The competition is very stiff this year, but I still hope you win it.

Weird Al completists, set your TiVos for The Colbert Report for the next week or so because Stephen has been known to make jokes at the expense of his fellow nominees when he was nominated for Emmys the last four years in a row. I believe this is his first Grammy nomination, so it is SURE to be mentioned on the show. Hopefully this means he will crack a Weird Al joke or two...

While I can't say that I feel that IL deserves the nomination, Al certainly does./

Congrats, Al! :whoot:

The only way this could be more awesome is if Weird Al And Spinal Tap somehow pull a Grammy first and "tie" for the award.

The winner would then be determined by a battle of the bands rock-off, but we all know that the world would explode in awe the moment they both started playing.

This is fantastic news. Take that, "Skipper Dan" haters!

Seriously, this is even more amazing when one considers how this was released. This will probably change very soon, but digital albums have rarely been given any sort of Grammy attention. Someone with better knowledge of Grammy history might be able to provide more accurate info, but with a quick search I can only find reference to one other digital-only release getting a nomination for best album (in a genre or otherwise), a nod this past summer to Heavy D's "Vibes" for "Best Reggae Album." Regardless, this is surely the first time a digital-only album has been nominated in the comedy category.

I'm inclined to think Radiohead's In Rainbows last year, but that was nominated after it became a physical album. I'm not sure if the digital release was eligible for the year before as I can't find the cut off date for the 50th Grammys nominations (The digital album was release 10/10/07).
You have quickly thought up such matchless phrase?

Well if Al doesnt get it this time and I.L. is passed over, maybe that stands the main album in good stead when it finally comes out for next years awards?
Congratulations Al. IMO I.L is some of your best stuff ever. I'd love to see a win here, but it will be tough
