From what I heard (and I forget the source) long ago, wasn't that song written because someone broke up with him and he didn't feel like writing a funny song? Even when he's sad, he battles it with humor. What a guy! I don't know if anyone can confirm this because it was over 10 years ago when I heard that claim.

If I remember reading correctly, that was in the pamphlet for the Permanant Record box set, but it definitely was written after a breakup, I've even heard Bermuda or one of the other band members mention that before.
