Eh, PTW came out one month ago, and I don't consider $1.29 free.
Also, riding with the attention success with the controversy, quality of the song and the almost-released music video, people will buy into this album enough for it to chart SOMEWHERE. Plus, the older unreleased songs will still stand against time since they're still relevant and people don't care about how old the songs are anyway. They're still popular artists with one (Miley Cyrus) getting even more media attention than anyone anticipated.
Either way, people CRASHED the server when they got the preorder offers. They're anticipating the album and there's still plenty of things surrounding it that will guarantee Alpocalypse some success in sales. The only real complaint I've heard from people is how Al is including "Internet Leaks," which everyone KNEW ahead of time. Anyone who thinks the album isn't worth it (for that reason) ahead of time obviously doesn't understand the amount of things we get in addition to a new CD. Al's got music videos ready for every song except the polka; that's certainly going to help.
What'll also help (and I don't think it's been mentioned recently) is whatever else is put on the DVD. After all, we didn't just get music videos last time. Al's gotta have SOMETHING else.

I agree with you 100% on that one, plus the internet leaks were awesome, and I still love all the songs and can't wait to hear all the new ones!!

What he needs to do is sell his CD on amazon for 99 cents .... thats how Gaga got half her CD sales... hey if Billboard allows that for Gaga (to hit #1) let it be for everyone

Yes, but PTW was available on youtube for free, and since most Smartphones can stream Youtube now without a problem, it's not unline being able to get the song for free. The "controversy" sorrounding that song amounted to a brief news story on a few tabloid sites that didn't last much longer than an afternoon. Also, Miley Cyrus is pretty close to burning her bridge with American audiences since she hasn't been shy about saying that the reason she isn't touring the US this summer is because we "don't appreciate her" the way her fans overseas do.
Also, the Internet Leaks were good, but not great, and they weren't exactly universally appealing. Does anyone have sales figures for them? I know the only one that charted was Whatever You Like which reached #4 on the bubbling under chart (which would be like reaching #104 on the top 100 chart), not terrible by any means, but not great either.

Yes, but it's still publicity that people will remember. Wiring that publicity back to Al certainly won't detract from sales. In fact, if everyone is so insistent on phasing her out, this could be considered the final "nail in the coffin."
People of this generation probably won't forget the story too quickly, much less the Weird Al parody.
(One thing I noticed though, I seemed to have let slip one of the parody targets for Alpocalypse... it's a good thing everyone that read the song's title could tell what song it parodied anyway!)

Those were different times, however. Charting a single nowadays is hard, even with decades of experience behind you. I do believe he'll make it to #1, but it won't be without the help of his promotion buddies.CatraDhtem wrote:You honestly don't think he will sell at least 24,000 copies in the first week to make the top ten? Re: Alpocalypse Chart Watch & Speculation
What I find funny in all this is besides the fairy land fantasy posts that say "Al #1 FTW!!!! ", the rest of the posts predicting where the album will wind up have basically been "Boy, it's a good thing the market stinks".
In fact, I could go replace the Al references in my posts with references to Vanessa Carlton or Limp Bizkit and go to their forums and post them. It's the same argument.
If the album tanks, and it certainly could, I'll apologize for getting people's hopes up (Of course, I don't remember a single REALISTIC post that does that, but ok). No harm, no foul.
Heck, I don't even know if I can get the album until August, so that's one first week sale that Al's missing.

I think that a #1 is very realistic, but since you're the boss here, I'll gladly change my opinion.

If Alpocalypse goes #1, I'll also gladly apologize. Feel free to keep having that opinion.

Haha Weird Al will never have a #1 because he's a freakin comedy musician.
