I listened to it and watched it last night night too. The place looked like a fun place, and pretty full! The video quality on the webcast was incredible! At times when Jim or others were speaking it was a little hard to hear, but based on all the sound problems I've had in the past, I'm sure that's on my end, not theirs. Jim looked great --- healthy, and happy! :) And I thought the band he played with was really good! I'm glad I stayed up late to listen.

Anyway, it was nice to see and hear Jim. I'll have to pick up that new CD when it's ready. And not bad Hawaiian music for a guy born in Canada!

Does anyone know if Jim is still a Canadian citizen?

I don't know ,

Found this on the I-net :

Born in Toronto , moved at the age of 2 to Ottawa , studied in Florida and later went to California.

Didn't find anything on wether he applied for an American citizenship. ( up till now )

He is probably still Canadian by heart , only lives his life in the USA.
Whenever you set out to do something, something else must be done first.

In his bio on The Mothership, it says he still retains his Canadian citizenship.
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

Glad you were able to attend - Thanks for telling us about it, Helen! :)

With my dialup connection I didn't think it was going to work  but I tuned in for about the last 30 minutes--just in time to hear them say "1927" a couple of times - hehe :)

Wonder if he's going to play locally more often?

I didn't understand some of what they were saying...was there something about Gardena? (Not sure.)

If the new cd is like the first two, should be good :)

The band plays somewhere in Gardena, but I missed catching the exact venue. I don't know whether Jim plays with them there, though; it sounded like he'd invited them specially to join them for this performance.

Jim did look good, and obviously was very comfortable there among friends-- a very considerable segment of the audience. It seemed to be either friends of Jim, friends of band, or regulars at Kulak's who show up no matter who's playing. I think I may have been the only one there as a result of his Weird Al connection. Although, of course, I already had Coconut Hat and was legitimately there because I enjoyed the music. [/mandatory not-a-crazed-groupie disclaimer]
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

His website says he plays with them most Sunday mornings.

Also, most Sunday mornings 10AM - 1:30PM with "Hui!!"
at Bob's Okazu-Ya Hawaiian restaurant in Gardena.
16814 Vermont, just of the 110 freeway at the 91 West exit
310-515-2250

Checking Jim's website for information? Isn't that cheating? :P
