If people do go to this, can I just say:
Please don't mob him like you're at an Al meet and greet. At this event, he's Kimo- not Jim. I know you guys mean well, but I'm just saying. I know you guys won't literally "mob" him.

This has been a Kilakina PSA.
Mahalo for your attention.

I'm sure he wouldn't mind a mob if we all bought CDs.

I've been to several of Jim's solo gigs and mobbing has never been a problem. The more the merrier.

I'm not saying don't go- I'm just asking that people behave, that's all. I'm sure he'd love a big audience... especially a big audience who has bought his CDs.

It was a lovely performance, Jim and Kapo and occasionally someone on bass whose name I didn't catch, and a few songs danced by the ladies of the hula school (they did "Little Grass Shack" and you could really see the storytelling aspect of the hula in that one-- maybe because the WORDS were in English, so you could tell what they were interpreting). He did songs off both Slack Key West and the new album, both his own and the ones he'd covered (Akaka Falls, for one).

I'd estimate slightly upward of 30 people. No mobbing whatsoever, as I would have expected since everybody there was there either because: 1) they stopped for coffee at the Borders cafe 2) they knew Jim, one of the other musicians or a dancer personally or 3) they were on Jim's email list. I would not be surprised at all to find out that I was the only person there who found out about Jim's slack key through the Al connection. And I didn't mob either; I just shook Jim's hand and told him about the article I saw about Bill Tapia's birthday party.

Looking forward to Redondo Beach next weekend!

Glad to hear it went well.

Was the bass player this guy?

I don't recall his name, either, but I'll bet that's who was there.

Helen, I'm so glad you were able to go. It sounds like it was a nice show. I would love to see hula dancers perform live, *and of course, Jim, too.*

:D
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!
