I've met George and Dennis! Congrats on the nom, guys!

Anyways, good idea, Jon. It's about time Kimo had an "official" thread.

In general I think each of the band members deserve their own thread, but I only had something to say about Jim right now.

I just bought one of Jim's CDs on iTunes last night for the first time. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL music.

As many of you know, I'm a teacher. I like to play music and dim the lights when my kids are writing, and for a while I've been trying to find just the right music. I have loads of instrumental music, much of which comes is score, like stuff by John Williams. While that kind of music is great, it's very often distracting. I needed something that was calming and pleasant to listen to, but that doesn't distract. Basically something you could have playing while you're reading and not have it interfere in the slightest.

Jim's slack key guitar music is PERFECT for this! It created the perfect, peaceful mood. I plan on getting more of Jim's music soon!

Welcome to the wonderful world of slack key, Jeremy. I love Jim's music, and own 4 of his cds. It's also nice for riding in the car. My Dad, my aunt and my uncle all approve of Coconut Hat. They're all in their 70's, too. *Well, my Dad will be 80 on January 15th* Now I wanna get my Dad some Kimo music.

:D

Oh, and Happy Birthday, Kimo! (again) *I also posted in the birthday topic*
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

I thought we had a topic for general discussion for the boys in the band but... maybe I dreamt it

anyway, I am so thankful for Jim's music these past few months - they've made an uncertain time less stressful, made a cold time of year bearable and there's still so much to discover in his music... it can accompany you in the background as relaxation or you can steep yourself in it and enjoy his compositions and playing.

Thanks Jim! :)
I'm not comfortable in my comfort zone - it's poorly named.

And it was a very cool show. I continue to be impressed by what a variety of different music all comes under the slack key category. Jim and two other guys opened the show, alternating between their solo songs and playing together. I'd never seen Jim playing slack key in an ensemble before (unless you count hearing him being accompanied by a friend on lap steel guitar)... and when I talked to him VERY briefly after the show (there was a big line of people wanting to buy his CDs, and I didn't want to impede that any) he said that he'd never played with those guys before this weekend. Awesome.
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.
