Okay, I was watching AL on Kilborn last night, and I started seeing commercials that brought up lines from Poodle Hat, mostly from "Couch Potato", of course. Anyway, I noticed a lot of CBS shows mentioned in "Couch Potato". Here's a breakdown of TV Shows mentioned, and the network they first appeared on. In the case of the 3 show for "next season", I put them on the same network as the shows they're based on.

Flintstones – ABC

American Idol – FOX

Osbournes – MTV

Da Ali G Show – HBO

Celebrity Mole – ABC

Anna Nicole – E!

Six Feet Under – HBO

24 – FOX

Law & Order – NBC

60 Minutes – CBS

E! True Hollywood Story – E!

CSI: Boise – CBS

Touched By An Uncle – CBS

Everybody Tolerates Raymond – CBS

King of Queens – CBS

8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter – ABC

The Bachelorette – ABC

Welcome Back Kotter – ABC

The Muppet Show – syndicated

Melrose Place – FOX

Lost in Space – CBS

Amazing Race – CBS

Without A Trace – CBS

Will & Grace – NBC

Fear Factor – NBC

Survivor – CBS

Gilligan’s Island - CBS

Spongebob Squarepants – Nickelodeon

MacGyver – ABC

Tonight Show with Jay Leno - NBC

Drew Carey Show – ABC

Entertainment Tonight – syndicated

Are You Hot? – ABC

The Sopranos – HBO

Oprah Winfrey Show - syndicated

EDIT: Friends/Mad About You - NBC

Totals:

CBS – 10

ABC – 8

NBC – 5

FOX – 3

HBO – 3

syndicated - 3

E! – 2

Nickelodeon – 1

MTV – 1

As you can see CBS and ABC have the most mentioned. I wonder if CBS is at the top because The Weird Al Show was on CBS, or maybe they just have funnier and easier-to-rhyme show titles. Of course, AL did make an appearance on the Craig Kilborn show on CBS last night. hmmm... :satisfied:

or maybe it's just a coincidence.

What I find funny about this list is that just a few years ago (before Survivor and Ray Romano) CBS had no hit shows other than Letterman. They were always at the bottom of the ratings and the butt of jokes. But they've since climbed out of that pit and have several of the top rated shows on television.

ABC has been low on ratings recently too, but the Bachelor and John Ritter have helped them out a lot. I'm betting that with next year's demise of Friends, we will see NBC slip into a huge ratings slump. "Must skip TV!" Sorry this post was completely off the topic of Al!

BTW, shouldn't Friends be added to your list (see Lisa Kudrow reference). Also, I would give FOX a few more points because their station was referecned in the song and plus Al devoted a much bigger portion of the song to American Idol (also the Ozbornes) than most of the other shows.

But according to the Ed Wynn show, Mr. C is Larry, Mr. B is Larry, and Mr. S is Shemp...

Add the MTV and Nickelodeon shows to CBS as well, because it's the same family of networks. And entertainment Tonight, I believe is tied to CBS as well (They do a special version of it for VH1, so add that to the family anyway...)

And Muppet babies was on CBS too and...ok, now I'm grasping at straws....

I find it odd that I knew all of those TV show titles and I haven't watched CBS in forever, except for Al in Kilborn.

Well, there are only 3 FOX shows referenced in the song, and while the American Idol portion was longer, he also didn't actually name the show, so no extra points. And FOX was mentioned in the song: "next week on FOX watch lions eat Christians", but quite a few channels were mentioned in the choruses, but that's not what my list was including, otherwise CSPAN, TVLand, HBO and Lifetime would have quite a few points.
