Oh yeah, they did that for Incredibad! That really helped the sales. That link is way too long for me to click, though, so can someone bit.ly it?

Alright. I just prefer clicking short links, that's all.

I wish I knew. You pretty much have to be in the industry to have all access to Soundscan data. The only reason I knew of those two was because someone on a music message board who did have some sort of Soundscan-related account was posting a "here's what needs to be certified" list. Sadly, nothing more concerning Al was ever posted.

Volcano/Jive had ordered audits before the release of the last two albums. I don't know if those were done to specifically coincide with the album releases (in order to beef up Al's sales numbers for press releases) or if they just luckily worked out that way. But as I said, the last time the RIAA reported any numbers on Al was in early 2008, so who knows what the reason is. It's probably a costly procedure and it could just be that the label is spacing out their audits more.

It seems as if Al keeps track of how well his music is selling through his royalties, so if he saw some huge influx of sales for x album he could probably beg and plead for the label to order an audit...but at the same time, surely he would want to see his only Grammy-winning album go Gold, right?

The debut album won a grammy too, right?

I don't think it did... I think Poodle Hat was the only album to win an album-based grammy. "Eat It" and "Fat" won Grammy's for song-specific things, I think the latter was for music video.

Nope, despite what "Behind the Music" said. It wasn't even nominated.

Weird Al generally loses the Grammies to more popular comedians like Bill Cosby and Stephen Colbert. Poodle Hat just happened to come out during a slow year.

All of us should come up with a special award to present to Al sometime, that would be really cool.

Well, a while back some folks on here created a custom "Platinum Record" award to congratulate Al on W&N going Platinum, as the RIAA no longer produces physical awards for singles.

It is also possible that "Poodle Hat" won a Grammy in part because Al had been ineligible in that category for a decade, so it could be argued that it was a sort of apologetic award (which isn't that rare of a thing in industry awards...unless you really think Denzel Washington deserved a Best Actor Oscar for "Training Day").
