It is also possible that "Poodle Hat" won a Grammy in part because Al had been ineligible in that category for a decade, so it could be argued that it was a sort of apologetic award (which isn't that rare of a thing in industry awards...unless you really think Denzel Washington deserved a Best Actor Oscar for "Training Day").
Well... Let's just hope that "Alpocalpyse" gets a Grammy too.

I believe that he will... I mean, there hasnt' been this much hype and controversy for an ALbum since Bad Hair Day... definitely bringing major attention to the new ALbum and sales will probably push to number one quickly... I mean look at Lady Gaga, the Al controversy gave her better sales than even WE predicted... she sold 1 million in the first week, and we only thought she would sell something like 200,000... I think Al's sales will come dangerously close to that... possibly the best an ALbum has ever sold

harsh

But Al will be up against the Lonely Island and other big comedy acts, so I won't be holding my breath.

As for your sales predictions, josey...lolno

And why was Al ineligible in the comedy music category? Wasn't that all he produced?

IIRC, Lonely Island wasn't nominated in the comedy category for their last album but rather the rap categories. I recall Al tweeting surprise at the apparent snub.

For the period between 1993 and 2003, the Grammys had changed the category to "Comedy Spoken Word," rendering albums that were mostly music ineligible. In order to have qualified, Al would have needed an album to be something like 60 percent spoken word.

Well, according to Soundscan it's been eligible for a Gold Record for almost two years now (as BHD has also been to go Double Platinum), but it doesn't look as if Jive has ordered a new RIAA count of Al's catalog since early 2008...but yes, every little bit helps.
Now it's 2013. Is Poodle Hat gold yet?
