OK, I may just be clueless, so I'm going to ask the more educated when it comes to all things Al. Is Bohemian Polka a polka or a parody?

On one hand, it's done in a polka style. It has the original lyrics.

On the other hand, it's making fun of the original. It only includes one song, unlike other traditional polka medleys.

This is one of my favorite polkas, though.

So, may I get some help on this one? Thanks so much.

Thanks MarsBar101. I was leaning that direction, but wanted a definitive answer.

Technically, in music terms, it's a cover. The STYLE is polka. But the type of song is a cover.

Okay. Still, nothing personal, but :lockit: .

Why does it need to be locked? We don't have a "Bohemian Polka" topic yet.

I've noticed people are often quick to want to lock anything that they don't feel like talking about. Anth's right. There's no reason to lock the thread.

Well, even though it was hyped as a "parody" when the album came out (which I think is merely just a matter of semantics), it's a polka all the way. A polka in Al's case does not necessarily have to be a medley ("Polkamon," for example), but it sure helps. :sly:

I just meant there was no point in arguing whether it was polka or parody. feel free to discuss it though.

A parody is when Al changes the lyrics of the song for a comedic outcome; whereas a polka is when Al uses the original lyrics, but in the style of a polka for a comedic effect.

In conclusion, it's a polka. Whoo.
