Re: Bite MeI snagged an old copy of OTDE a while back from a local bookstore (Half Price Books); it still had a ten minute silent gap on it before Bite Me. I could've sworn that Al said they purposefully used the silent ten minutes to fool people that left their cassettes/CDs on after YDLMA.

Re: Bite MeQuestion for folks who have been alive longer than me: Were there ever hidden tracks on vinyl that happened several minutes after the last song ended? Or is that a phenomenon unique to the CD era?
I have listened to many CDs over the years that have something along the lines of Bite Me, but I'm relatively new to the LP format so I don't know how they handled hidden tracks. I couldn't tell a dirt clod from a plate of caviar.
Re: The Big Absence Topic: Once More, With FeelingSeveral albums had double grooves so what tracks you heard depends on where you placed the needle. Also some records had tracks in the label but not sure how they worked. Its harder to hide songs on vinyl due to the grooves being visible, but at the same time if you're listening to a first pressing Abbey Road and the last song is called The End, you're probably gonna lift the needle at the end. If you do you're gonna miss Paul McCartney singing Her Majesty.

Re: Bite MeJust remembered that Bite Me is a reference to Endless, Nameless by Nirvana. Same principle (ten minutes of silence comes first), but the song isn't an insane burst cacophony... depending on your opinion of Nirvana's music.

Re: Bite MeMy copy of OTDE has only a 3 second gap
Re: Bite MeI always chuckle at the end of a Weird Al Show episode when the Ear Booker logo comes up.
I ordered a copy of OTDE from Amazon back in December. I was so disappointed when the CD ended immediately after You Don't Love Me Anymore, I scoured eBay for used copies. I found a couple and asked the sellers to listen to the end of the CDs. The first said it ended quietly, but the second, which was listed as "Sep-1998" replied:
So I immediately bought it and now I have 2 copies of Off the Deep End...with a third on the way (as part of Squeeze Box). Which reminds me: do you think the Squeeze Box edition of OTDE will include Bite Me?
It's not so much a hidden track, but after "A Day in the Life" at the end of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, there's a bunch of indecipherable chattering. On the CD, it's just looped a few times and fades out, but I've read that the original vinyl release had a trick groove that caused it to loop endlessly until the listener turned it off. By the way, for a while I've been thinking about using Bite Me as an alarm, text alert or ringtone. Is this a good idea, or will heart attacks be involved?
Re: Bite MeGot Squeeze Box for Christmas and have been going through all the files. It's nice/horrifying to have Bite Me in my library now, and a lossless version at that!
Looking up information about the song, I stumbled across the easter egg/mistake(?) of the David Hallyday song being featured when the song is slowed down 8 times. I figured with a very high quality rip of the song and Adobe Soundbooth, I'd be able to hear this myself, but after playing around with it for way too long, I didn't hear anything that resembled the verse in "Tears of the Earth", only long, nightmare-inducing pitches. I did find the easter egg thread on this forum where people were able to identify it, but none of the links to the MP3s with the correct mixing are active anymore. Anyone have an audio clip or able to direct me somewhere where I can hear the song excerpt? It could also be possible that it's not included in the Squeeze Box version, but I doubt it; something that hidden would probably be a pain in the butt to filter out.
Re: Bite Me
I was trying to do the same with audacity and I don't know if I slowed it down enough but I thought I could hear it but it sounded weird so I reversed it and I could hear it! Maybe you can try it with Adobe Soundbooth so it sounds better but this is what I got. I'm a ghost that haunts WOWAY oOoOoOoOo
