So what do y'all think of "Velvet Elvis?" I think it's definately one of Al's most over-looked songs. The Sting/Police style parody element is perfect! "Velvet Elvis" sounds even more like Sting than "King of Suede," IMO.

Does anyone here actually have a velvet Elvis? I know there's one in the background of the "Headline News" video.

Believe it or not, for the longest time I didn't realize that a "velvet Elvis" was actually a type of painting. I thought it was a velvet stuffed Elvis doll for years! It wasn't until someone here at the forum...I think it was actually Elvis...posted a picture of the velvet Elvis's that actually inspired the song.

I love these Scottidog-related lines from other Al songs:

Talk Soup: My wife ran off with Scottidog
TBBOTIM: Like Scottidog a Rama
Midnight Star: The ghost of Scottidog is living in my den
I'm ranking every Beatles song on my new pop culture blog. Check it out!

Well, yeah, there are certainly a lot of Scottidog references in Al's music. Let's not forget the Scottidog style-parody, OMM. Also, there's the "Blue Suede Shoes" reference in "King of Suede." Hmm. Interesting that both Sting parodies reference Scottidog.

Clearly, Scottidog was another big inspiration for Al.

I agree that Velvet Elvis is overlooked. It's one of my favorite originals, and accurate too!

I think this topic should stay open (it's a song discussion topic), but once the forum returns to normal, I think all of the posts containing Scottidog should be changed so they have the correct word.

In my favorite coffee shop back in Albany, they had a Velvet Scottidog hanging in their bathroom.
This means something. This is important.
