Chiller Theatre Book Signing, Parsippany NJ 10/25 - 10/27

Post by Yup. »

My cousin just let me know about this and we are going.

Apparently it's some big convention that they hold for other signings, movies, meet and greets, ect.

Not sure what it is exactly. Not sure where to look for it either.

But Al's gonna be there all three days (Fri, Sat, Sun) I will be there on Friday.

I went to one of these in Baltimore once. It was ok. Mostly full of bootleg videos. Just keep in mind they will be charging, and it will probably be ridiculous. Most convention appearances charge for autographs and depending on the item. Flats are one rate, which would be pictures. Books or other memorabilia are more. And then they will charge you to get a picture taken . So your trip to meet Al will end up costing you close to or even more than a concert, without the benefit of a performance.

Really? Wow. I thought they only charged admission price (we already have tickets). I wonder if they still charge if we bring our own items. I guess I have research to do on this. I don't even know what it is; a cousin told me about it. But apparently people dress up as random things?? Or something to do with the person you're going to meet?? idk Either way I'll be there. :)

Every guest at this show will charge something. It is entirely up to them. I have been a promoter of sci-fi conventions for over 20 years, and dealt with hundreds of actors. Here is how the shows work:
About 90% of guests are not paid to be at the show. Their airfare & hotel is paid (or local travel), and they make their money by selling photos/autographs/merchandise. Or, someone (a dealer) has paid them to be there and they are trying to make back what they spent on said guest. That is how a show can get so many guests.
There is no average, it is usually based on the area. Someone may get $15 for a photo in one area and $30 in another. I've also had guests who will sign what you bring for free, only charging if you buy a photo from them.
I know this isn't the greatest help, but it really angers me when people complain about guests charging for autographs. They don't know the full story. A background actor (who just stands around, no lines) can make $175 a day on a film shoot, while a normal (non A-list) actor can make $4,000-$6,000 a week, hence why they charge to sit at a table and meet fans. They could be on set making alot more money. Granted there are people who charge outrageous prices, but for most people the thrill of meeting their idol is worth the fee charged for the celebrity to be there.

No matter what you will be charged more than admission. Its how the guests make their money. I paid 40 bucks to get a signature and pic from Henry Winkler, on top of my 55 dollar admission to Wizard World Philly in May. And yes, you will see people dressed up, its called cosplay and its awesome. Dont be afraid to ask for pictures from them.

I just read this on the official page for the Chiller Theatre, not that it says anything...
NOTICE!
It has been brought to our
attention that a number of guests
are telling fans at the show that
Chiller Theatre makes them
charge for autographs & photos with them.

This is untrue! Chiller Theatre
does not make money from the
Guests' signing at their tables,
so we have no need to tell
them that.

If a guest tells you this during
the show PLEASE tell a Senior
Staff member or the Show Owner
IMMEDIATELY so we may confront the individual.
And I'm going to wear a working Wheel Of Fish on my back. Of course the fish will be fake, but one of them will be a red snapper. :great:

That only says that Chiller doesn't force them to charge, not that they can't.
