NFL "Fine, you dont think artists should pay for the privelege of playing on our stage, who can we get cheap? Hey whats Weird Al doing?"

Honestly the whole thing is stupid. They are already getting a cut of ticket sales for tours after the SB essentially as payment for promotion. Do you think Beyonce needed it to sell tickets? Not one bit. Do you think Beyonce performing at the SB brought more viewers to the halftime show? Absolutely. I will however argue that if Al were to perform you would probably see a boost in his ticket sales once people saw what his stage show is capable of. But for any other band it made very little difference

It's not anti-sports either. It just mocks the way sports fans have overinflated confidence in their teams, even if they're not that great.
Eagles fans.

Sorry if this has been been made light of in previous posts. I'm thinking it's just a rumor, but I heard on the radio last week that Al was one of the artists that was asked to perform, but he declined. If this is true, maybe the fact that the NFL asking for money turned him off from the whole idea? Again, I'm considering this a rumor at the moment...I may have even misheard. This was said on 94X in Minneapolis. This station gave Al a lot of coverage when Mandatory Fun came out, promoting each song as the videos came out, and even did a short, over the phone interview with Al at 7am on July 27th.

There's no way Al would play ball if the bribery rumors were true. If the NFL approached Al the way they supposedly approached Coldplay, Rihanna, and Katy Perry, I am sure he would have hung up the phone immediately.

Is the link to the petition still up on wa.com? If so id say that disproves this rumor

It's still up on the Merch page. I agree with Jon that if the NFL did approach Al and asked him to pay to perform, he probably told them to go climb a tree.

But if that was the case Im sure Jon would have removed the petition link. Also I can see Al tweeting that article with a comment
