No, actually, I think the order of events was: Guy makes twine ball over the course of many many years. Other guy writes book called Roadside America, which lists all the attractions that would later be found in BBOTIM. Al reads Roadside America, writes & records song (1989). Somebody in Darwin, MN opens up Twine Ball Inn restaurant and has postcards printed. Al visits Darwin and Twine Ball (1996).

Other life-imitates-Al item: I'm pretty sure that somebody hand-made and then sold on eBay a Dukes of Hazzard ash tray after Al's song was released. Keep watching for Shatner's toupee to show up!

I think I'd bid on a Kleenex used by Dr. Dre but i wouldn't know if I was being ironic or unironic.

I actually lost my toenail clippers the day before Poodle Hat came out. I still haven't found them. :(

When I had my former job "Another One Rides The Bus" and"Dog Eat Dog" were too close to my own reality.

P.S. Bfore PH my mom put all the toenail clippers in one little tuplewhere (burp) containor. and I often walk barefoot (as a result I have athletes foot, but noone want's to hear about that).

I just want to add how unnerving it is to see one of those when you're driving through Atlanta.

"Look! A real one!!!"
