The only song I really want to hear Al do now is "Private Life" by Oingo Boingo. It's my favorite Boingo song of all time.

I oddly enough did get Johnny B. Goode crossed off my list. Never in a million years would I have expected Al to perform it live!

If Al is planning to do any Oingo Boingo covers on this tour, I hope he does "Stay".

Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon is another one that absolutely must be covered on this tour.

Ooooh! YES!!!!! That would be epic!

I'd also love to hear him do 20th Century Boy.

If I understand correctly, Al's doing Co er that make sense for each city, so with that in mind... Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Also with Seattle in mind, maybe that's when he'll pull out Callin In Sick.

He is occasionally doing covers that make sense for the city, but more often than not there is no connection that I can find. Neither of his Chicago shows had covers that had anything to do with the city. I'm sure he chose Beat on the Brat since Dr. Demento was at that show. Not sure why he chose the second night to do The Monkees (he did mention his tour with them back in the day as inspiration) but I'm glad he did, it was fantastic!

Also he hasn't done any covers of songs he has previously done full parodies of (the only outlier I can recall being Honkey Tonk Women which appeared in Hot Rocks Polka) so I'm guessing Smells Like Teen Spirit is off the table. However I wouldn't be surprised if he busts out some other grunge rock hit for his Seattle show.

Seems to me that he's been going out of his way to NOT play songs that tie into the city or venue (see the Apollo shows, for instance).
However, if he did want to do something for Seattle, top options are NIRVANA (obv), Soundgarden, or.... Jimi Hendrix!

Ok, I went back through the setlists (because of course I did) and my theory is he chose a couple songs for the irony or some connection to the city they're in but the rest are all pretty random. Also he's covered quite a few British bands/musicians for whatever that's worth!

My notes:
2nd Boston show: Dirty Water is about Boston, so this seems like an obvious choice.
Apollo Theater shows: I think the songs by super white artists (The Carpenters more so than Neil Young) was clearly a choice made for the irony of it.
Cleveland: Play That Funky Music - Wild Cherry is from OH (not Cleveland specifically) but I'd argue that was coincidence.
Milwaukee - Beer Barrel Polka was a fitting choice for Wisconsin
Peaches played in Augusta, Georgia. Obvious connection to Georgia peaches.

And that is all I could come up with out of 40+ shows played so far. I doubt Al is spending valuable time wracking his brain for good song/city connections, but if something obvious occurs to him he probably goes with it. I would love to find out how they chose the covers. My guess is that Al and the band just brainstormed a list of songs they enjoy playing and ran with it. I think we are overthinking it more than he ever would.

They're playing 500 Miles as part of the pre-show music here, and now I hope Al plays it.
