The Ultimate Parody Guide

Post by TheLazenby »

I've been working on this for a while... I know many will disagree about the style parodies, but I want to get a 'finalized' opinion - i.e., I want to listen to the song you think he's spoofing to see if it's close enough.

Enjoy!

You've done a great job! Perhaps a couple more corrections (please don't be offended)

"Addicted to Love" was by Robert Palmer, not Arnold *giggle*

When Al was dealing with "Live and Let Die", it was with Paul McCartney (Guns N Roses do the song later?)

Just Curious...are Fairfax Avenue and Flatbush Avenue both parodies of the same song? (is this the only time that's happened?)

House of the Rising Sun--The Animals or Bob Dylan?

You've got a very comprehensive list of songs! : )

Also, I'm pretty sure that "Young, Dumb, and Ugly" is a style parody of AC/DC, not Guns 'N' Roses.

You've also got to include "Party at the Leper Colony" as a Bo Diddley meets Springsteen style parody which can be confirmed on bermudaschwartz.com

Yes, they're both parodying "Electric Avenue" and are essentially the same song. The only difference is that when performing the song in Los Angeles Al would say "Fairfax" in place of "Flatbush" and "Canter's" instead of "Ratner's." The rationale was that West Coasters might not have been all that familiar with the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York.

House of the Rising Sun--The Animals or Bob Dylan?
Or maybe Dave Van Ronk or... ?

It's a song with a very long pedigree.
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

OK, I fixed all the errors...

I attributed LALD to Guns & Roses, because Al parodied it because G'n'R had just brought out their version, but I suppose there's not much of a different between the two versions.

EDIT: Added the song from the Entertainment Weekly article!
