I really hope that Al releases at least an album's worth of rarities and unreleased songs at some point in the future. there is some good stuff out there.

As much as I wish this too, I don't see this happening.

Much like The Residents, Al is ashamed of his early works, no matter how amazing the fans find it.

He's let some early stuff leak in the form of Dr. Demento Basement Tapes, or demo versions on the boxed set, or b-sides, but I think he's released everything he feels comfortable with at this point. It's one thing to release a few songs in limited quanities to a targeted audience of hard-core fans, but sadly I don't see any early stuff making it out in an official capacity anymore, other than the very rare one-offs like mentioned above.

Especially now that he's off of a record label and going digital only. If he ever releases another physical album, it will be all new material, not 30-year old songs.

There's also the consideration that, aside from what Al might think of some of those early parodies, a lot of them were not released for a reason. It's Stilly Billy Joel To Me and Pac-Man come to mind right away. It would sure be odd for Al to go through all the red tape of getting a parody of The Who approved for it to be one as bad as Won't Eat Prunes Again. I'm sure if The Who were going to sign off, he would rather do a new parody of them that's actually well written.
And as much as we on this forum might like it, I really don't think an album of all early Weird Al originals like Leisure Suit Serenade and School Cafeteria is gonna sell.

If (is that a big enough "If?") Al wanted to release that stuff, the best way would probably be to just offer them for free on the website from time to time. There's zero demand for it outside of rabid fans. But that's probably not going to happen, and we're going to have to be okay with that.

Fatter is the funniest thing I've heard in years. Always makes me laugh like a child.
