Hey Berm,

What do you do when the gang isn't touring?

I relax at home, do a few gigs with other bands, and in 2001 I started seriously archiving old band tapes to CD - rehearsals, gigs, outtakes, demos... much of which is with Al. That's been almost a full-time pursuit, so it was a busy year for me!

Any chance that this material you're archiving might wind up on a "rarities" CD?

A few things have already appeared on the Dr. Demento Basement Tapes: Yoda, I Love Rocky Road, and a demo of an old song with different lyrics than the released version (due any day on BT #10)... and I had the only copy of it!

Lots more stuff is being preserved for the future, but I don't foresee a 'rarities' album anytime soon.

Just out of curiosity....are you finished?

With the obvious exception to future projects:))

Far from it, I've probably converted 20%, and filled about 70 CDs. It's gonna be a big archive!

Do you consider your collection to be an investment or a passion?

..........or perhaps, a really, really bad habit you are trying desperately to quit...

It's really a passion, because the bulk of it contains my work. It's not so much about archiving Al... it's about archiving me! But I do have some cool Al-only stuff, don't know if it will ever see the light of day. I converted those things as much for Al, as for "the archive."

I can't do anything with the recordings without Al's permission.
