This is similar to the Misheard Lyrics thread, but for when a lyrics has been heard right, but interpreted the wrong way.

One that comes to mind for me is in EYKIW. I used to take it that Al was driving with a rabid wolverine sitting next to him wearing his underwear. There are definitely others that I have misinterpreted, but I can't think of what they are right now. I'll post them later when I've thought of what they were.

Well, that song is an example of ambiguity, which means it can be taken more than one way. So, it's not that you misinterpreted it, it's that your initial thought was that one.

I've explained this before, but here goes. The song can mean:

a. Al was driving down the freeway wearing his underwear and a rabid wolverine was in the car with him.

*b. Al was driving down the freeway, and a rabid wolverine was in his underwear while Al was wearing it. Note: I imagined him just wearing his underwear, but he could also have been fully clothed.

c. Al was driving down the freeway, and the rabid wolverine was wearing his underwear.

*my option, on initial listening. hehe!

So, there are really no right or wrong answers here.

It's happened it other songs too, though.

Like another example I just thought of was in Frank's 2000" TV. The opening line I took to mean that the screen blocks out the noon-day sun, dwarfs (like in the Disney movie), and the mighty redwoods.

Well, that's different, but in the case of EYKIW, it's up to you what it means. The sun blocks out the noon-day sun? Don't mean the screen? hehe, dwarfs, aka little people. Cute. I knew that he meant that the screen on the tv made the mighty redwoods look small. That's a good example, BS.

Well, the first time I heard Frank's 2000" TV, I was like six years old... so when Al said the neighbors were green, I thought he meant that they literally had green skin.

I thought Gump was a baker, not a millionaire. He did make lots of bread, you know.

I used to think that the "You know the place" line in Albuquerque referred to Jerry's Bait Shop, but now I take it to mean the basement where Al grew up.
