Thanks for the info Bruce! I know Al's songs arent autobiographical. I'm sorry if my opinion came across harsh or strong. I wasnt meaning to do that. :S I was just saying the song sounded odd. But I get it now thanks.

I love "Here's Johnny", too! It's my second favorite song on that cd, too, but "Dog Eat Dog" is my favorite, especially when he performs it live.

Here's Johnny isn't my favorite, but I don't hate it either. Manda, you're probably too young to remember The Johnny Carson show and get most of the Ed McMahon references, but some of them are pretty funny.

What I don't understand is why they didn't get Ed to do the Ed parts? Was he just not available? I mean, it's not like he would refuse to work with Al. After all he was Al's adopted brother and all.

ScottiDog- I think it's because they had CALLED Ed, but he never called back.

...Wait, that's what happened with the Bill Gates impersonator... nevermind then. :P

(PS: I'm seeing alot of "Never going home" refrences ever since I've seen the footage from RWS 27 million times, IE someone suggesting a chip in one's head that plays Yoda 24/7/365)

EDIT- Oh, and The reason it sounds like Ed is because it's a very good IMPERSONATOR, if you didn't know that

It really does. But it wasn't him. It was *checks The Mothership*

John Roarke - spoken word vocal
Ed McMahon was out of town, so John handled Ed's trademark 'Hey-oh' on "Here's Johnny".

I guess that answers my question too.

I always found it odd in TNGH that when Nick informed Al it was Ed, Al didn't say "I know Dad....I wrote a song about him" Just would've been funny

My first exposure to this song was on the TV Album, btw. Score one for the Cheesy Compilations!
You have quickly thought up such matchless phrase?

I love Here's Johnny! It's such an up-sounding, happy song. I know not everyone likes it as much as I do, but I just get a smile on my face when I hear it. I like how he references Ed's old ads for Budweiser and Alpo with the line "watch him selling beer and dog food." Great song!

Patti

Who has also seen "Short Circuit" many times and still loves it!
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

I love this song too! It makes me remember about how Ed McMahon seemed to be everywhere on TV in the 80's and I remember the many times I have seen "Short Circuit" and the original song. I find it a fun song to drive too.
