Don't generalize. :stern: I'm a teacher, and I think swearing is a perfectly acceptable form of communication.

"Nature Trail to Hell" has always been one my favorite originals and one of the most underrated songs he's done. It's one of his many originals that are much stronger musically than lyrically. In fact, if you break it down, there are really only a few lines of the song. But the music is wonderful. I especially enjoy the instrumental solo and the false ending. The Thriller-esque opening makes it a perfect ending to the album that starts with a Thriller parody. It's a great way to tie the whole album together. He's only done that one other time, with "Bite Me."

I think this is his first song that showed his Zappa influence.

Wow, being a huge Zappa fan I can't believe I never thought of that before. It makes total sense though.

El mentioned early on in this topic that the beginning notes of this song sound similar to Elton John's "Funeral For a Friend", and I couldn't agree more. I just put a playlist of about 10 Halloween-themed songs on my myspace, and NTTH is followed by "Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding". You can really hear the influence when you hear them back to back. Has anyone ever pegged this song as at least a partial style parody of Elton John?

I just found out about a digital album called "Hell Bent for Halloween" while making my playlist. NTTH is song #13. Apparently, this came out last year.

Check it out.

Pretty cool!
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

Anyone notice how hoarse Al gets at the end? When he tries to sing the chorus, he can't hit the notes, he's just crackly... then suddenly, like magic, his voice is OK again :-)

:oo :@*

I noticed that too about the crackly voice. I think that it adds to the song, almost like a B rated horror flick! This is not one of my all time favorites by Al, but still a good one!
