She didnt write it. James Cameron wanted a song that was just instrumental, but the writer came up with lyrics and had Celine do the demo because they were friends. Thats what tipped it in favor for the lyrics version

I remember Al saying that in an old Ask Al.

Wow! If that's true, then perhaps he did intend on possibly doing a full recorded version for an album?

If he did, it would have replaced one of the songs on "Running with Scissors." It probably would have been in the "Grapefruit Diet" spot. Personally, I think even though he had tackled the fat jokes before, "Grapefruit Diet" is a stronger parody than a full-length "Free Delivery" would have been. Sometimes getting denied permission actually works to Al's benefit ("You're Pitiful," "Snack All Night").

I don't know if this was ever discussed before, and I may be wayyy off on this, but on his Live 1999 concert dvd/video, right before he goes into Like A Surgeon I could swear I hear the tail end of instrumentals from Free Delivery. It's just what I thought I always heard, I know I could be really wrong though.

That's probably your imagination. "Like a Surgeon" was performed in its entirety in that tour, and before the medley.
