I am just beginning to think of plotting a vacation.... IF I can get the days (and the passport, and a few other such needful items) I'm seriously thinking of it. I could see 5 Al shows and also shoehorn in short visits to Niagara Falls, Toronto, Montreal, Prince Edward Island, Walden Pond...

I can't believe Weird Al finally comes back to Halifax the year I'm living in Korea. What timing.

My first Weird Al show: Touring with Scissors at the Metro Centre in '99(?)

My second Weird Al show: ????

Yes, Yankomaniac, it sold out almost instantly -- I'm serious!!! I know people who went online at 10:00 a.m. (both for the pre-sale and the general sale) and ended up not being able to get tickets! Very small venue. Hmm, I wonder if this was the first show of the Mandatory Tour shows to sell out -- I'd be interested in the statistics! I am going, but I feel bad for all the people who couldn't get tickets. I think there were quite a few. I phoned (just out of curiousity) was told it sold out in less than 5 minutes by one person, 5-10 minutes by another person, and a friend of mine was told, like, 10 seconds or something.

Oh well, nice to know Al and the band are so popular, and it will be a nice, intimate show! Hopefully the crowd will be lively and energetic for its size (the last small casino show I went to in Regina, SK was SO dead, even though I know people were enjoying the show!)

They should have done it at the Metro Centre considering they have not played here in over a decade. Could see them playing there.

Selling tickets on the Net for a multi-platinum artist who's having the biggest year of his career for a venue with 650 seats makes no sense at all. Even Missing Persons would probably sell more than 650 seats. :P

Yeah, it's a little crazy. The problem with Halifax has always been that there isn't really a perfect Al-sized venue, at least not one I'm familiar with.

Al and the band have played Halifax twice before. The first time, the show also sold out (a bigger venue than the Casino) so they ended up adding a second show the same night. I'm sure it was an exhausting night for the band, but as a fan, I felt pretty lucky. That was in 1995.

In 1999, they were booked in a big arena. At least everyone who wanted to attend could get a seat, but the room felt kinda empty, I suppose (they block off the top sections which makes it look less empty). But yeah, considering the unprecedented success of this album, his continuous following over the years with all those successes, and the fact he hasn't played the Maritime provinces in 16 years, a 650 seat venue is super small.

By the way, I highly doubt it would happen, but I did notice there is a gap of a few days between London and Halifax, so it might be possible they would consider adding a second show on the 23rd (the night before). Has anyone been in touch with the venue? Probably a 99.99% chance it won't happen, but figure I'd better stay in the loop just in case! I don't remember how I found out about the second show in 1995, but I remember I was able to score a front row seat for it!!
