Generally speaking, we give the reason when we lock it. Of course there are always exceptions...

If you're just dying to know, and the explanation isn't there, you could always post it in the Forum Questions topic.

What if we just want to chat about it?

I know people are going to object to this but in the General Chat thread we've started an interestinig discussion about Stan the troll from Hell. There's enough discussion we have about him and his, for lack of better term, legacy to start a new topic. Also, it is very Al related. Can we start a topic about Stan where we can ask questions about him or express our feelings about him?

No.

I never feed Trolls and I don't read Spam.

To do that would be to reward his behavior, and I'm not going to do that. Al has more interesting and more mentally balanced fans I'd rather talk about.

Now a topic interviewing some of the long time fans could be interesting, if you could get them to agree to do it...

For everything you ever need to know about him, just read AMWA

I second Scottidog's NO because I love this forum as a Stan-free zone.

What defines a long time fan? I've enjoyed Al since the early 80s, but didn't really achieve connaisseur status until 2000.
This means something. This is important.

By my definition, it's anyone who was a fan before me... so before 2002. As OE has said, we have a deep bench of AL knowledge here, and I'd love to pick the brains of some of the more knowlegeable fans, Weird El included in that group.
