Hey everyone.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but the whole "Don't Download This Song" sounds very similar to "Download this Song", an upcoming single from comedy-rapper MC Lars with Jaret Reddick from Bowling for Soup. Anyone look into this?

There's probably something that's going to totally throw me off here, but considering how bad I jacked up Weird Al Survivor, I can basically say "Weird Al is the dude who shot Proof" and come off better.

That's the first I've heard about that.

I don't really have anything to add, but it's worth noting that both MC Lars and the guys from Bowling for Soup are Al fans. Maybe there was some kind of miscommunication or confusion somewhere, I don't know.

Topic?

I got this in a Google Alert this morning.

What are you working on now? I'm working on starting a new animated feature film, called "Idiots and Angels," which is about a selfish, morally bankrupt guy who wakes up one morning with wings growing out of his back. I'm in negotiations now to do a music video for Paul Simon, and coming up this summer there will be a music video for Weird Al Yankovic.

So, that makes a June 27 release more than likely if it's a summer release.

Well, to be a tad realistic here, I don't think anyone can really glean a release date from what Bill said, but at the very least it does reaffirm that he did in fact work on a new Al video, so that's something.

But of course, now that's just going to lead back into the whole "Don't Download This Song" discussion and whether or not it is in fact a "We are the World" parody despite what Al has recently said, etc., etc., etc.

"Don't Download This Song" - I am going to assume that this is not a parody of We Are the World, but is a STYLE parody of that type of song.

This is a rumor -- we have not heard this from a reliable source yet.

Didn't one of the animators of a video say that?

Yes
NYTimes 12/18/05 wrote: Mr. Plympton's latest animated short, "The Fan and the Flower," features voicing by the actor Paul Giamatti and has been shortlisted for a 2006 Oscar nomination. He's also at work on a half-hour documentary for the History Channel on the 1786 Shays' Rebellion in Massachusetts, and a video for the pop comedian Weird Al Yankovic for a number called "Don't Download This Song" (sung to the tune of "We Are the World").

But Al's Wal-Mart interview has discredited this somewhat.
This means something. This is important.

Look at the bold. They say that it's sung to the tune of it, not that it's a parody, If it's sung to that tune, it could be a style parody.
