Just so you guys know, there are such things as digital singles as well.

Random example...The Flaming Lips sold "The W.A.N.D." as a digital single a month or so before their album came out several months back, and then released "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song" as the lead single right as the album came out, complete with a new music video for it.

Digital singles (or EP songs too) are almost always pushed as a way to promote the upcoming album, no matter what the avenue. It is in no way absurd for Al to put out White and Nerdy this early, but I have a feeling it wont be.

The more I think about it, the more I think this song will be the premiere.

You see, I didn't read it carefully the first time and I always thought Al said he would be premiering the LEAD single. However, I re-read it and he does infact say "first single." The first single doesn't have to be the lead single. There is NO doubt that White and Nerdy will be track 1 on the CD, but now I really think DDTS is the premiere. And the fact that it's a free download... yeah, it's just too good.

It's quite alright, Jace. I think it's part of the pre-album speculation. I know I've changed my mind frequently during this spoiler season. I've had many conflicting feelings. I'm still not sure which song I think will premiere tomorrow. At least we won't have to wait long to find out.

So far, the only argument that has me considering DDTS premiering tomorrow is that the video premieres on Wednesday. It's just too close to be coincidence. I still believe it is going to be White and Nerdy, though, based on the sheer sellability of the song.

"First single" and "lead single" mean the exact same thing.

The question is whether or not W&N is the lead single as Chamillionaire said. Frankly, it doesn't really mean anything since there aren't going to be any real singles so in the end, it's a moot point.

When I read it, I thought the phrase "And I'll even make it a free download." was referring to the fact that on myspace, you can select to have a song be able to be only streamed or select it to be able to be downloaded free.

For instance, I made it so you can download my songs, instead of streaming only. (www.myspace.com/hotwaffles)

I disagree. In this case, the first single can be a song from the album, but the lead single is the one that promotes the album most directly. I don't think it's been done very often, but why not? It's a good double promotion.
