I'm logged into MySpace and it seems the download links are disabled on all four of the songs on his player. This is probably intentional.

yeah, but myspace doesn't have a download counter. Surely there will be tons of people (like me) who just download it right away and skip the streaming song.

EDIT: and correct me if I'm wrong here. Before (say a week ago), "pitiful" was the only song for "download", right? The other songs were just streaming.

and I seriously doubt one song being downloaded by many users, even from Al, could put much of a dent in myspace's servers. There really is no point in using a multiple connection download manager for a 4mb song anyway.

This is probably to keep people from using bandwidth up on his old songs, keeping people from downloading his new one.

I doubt that. When this parody is released, people will be downloading that song and that song only. The people who will be there the minute it's up for download are the people who already have "pitiful". nobody would go there planning to download all of them at once, unless they came across his profile by chance at the exact moment it's released.
Besides, myspace's servers can easily handle it. They are the third most popular site in the united states. one little song being downloaded will hardly affect them.

EDIT: also, weirdal.com held up fine when "pitiful" was released. now check out myspace's traffic compared to weirdal.com (weirdal.com is the red line). If myspace can't hold up when this is released, they have serious problems.

It's going to be somewhat of a net event. People may go there being refered from a friend and discover that his other songs are pretty cool. People who are also Al fans may just want to download the others because they don't have them yet, just out of the convience of downloading a song anyways.

You dont need to be registered to myspace to download the songs off the player.

even then, lets say the average page on mysapce is 85kb. and the song is 4mb

Now think about this, myspace has 1.5 BILLION page views per day. I'd guess (low) that with the streaming audio and pictures, the average page view is 700kb. I just downloaded Al's profile, and not including the streaming audio, it was ~750kb.

That makes 122.236088 TERABYTES of data transfered per day!

now, for the new Al song to even affect their servers by 1%, it would have to have to use 1.22236088 terabytes in one day. that's 320,434 downloads. even then, 1% difference shouldn't affect their servers a bit. They must allow for that kind of fluctuation in traffic even when there is not a big event like this.

"you're pitiful" only has 3,000 plays today, and many of those it played automatically. if it was up for download, it would be much less. possibly 500 downloads a day. It would hardly compare to the ammount of downloads the new song will get tonight.

So I don't know why Al stopped offering Pitiful for download, but I doubt it was because he was concerned about myspace's servers/myspace asked him to

And I am kind of swaying away from WaN, why would Al debut the song thats gonna sell the album before the video is filmed? By the time he gets it out there the song will be "old." Have other artists released a song so long before the video premiere's? I listen to country and since they took CMT away from us, I cant tell if they are simultaneously released or not.

Yes other artist have even sold there albums before the video has been made eg. Gnarls Barkley - Crazy
