Well, when you've been counting down from some ungodly number in the 50s or 60s, stopping at 20 would just kind of ruin the entire anticipation process.CapitalQ @ Sep 7 2006, 03:54 PM wrote: As far as I can tell the only thing that makes it special and unique is the number 26. For me the day I listen to the album will be the "special day" regardless of something stupid like the date...which will hopefully be the seventh.

I cannot believe the polka starts out with the Chicken Dance. After seeing the Barenaked Ladies incorporate the Chicken Dance in their concerts I was kinda surprised Al has not done much with it other than the Worlds Largest Chicken Dance appearance in OH.

It depends on what you mean by necessary. Anticipation is only building up one's own excitement for the album. It can stop any time a person wants. I just want to perserve my excitement until I can actually get my hands on a physical copy.CapitalQ @ Sep 7 2006, 04:06 PM wrote: The process that immediately becomes unnecessary when an album is leaked, you mean.

The fact that this song dissapointed me so much the first listen really wore me out. But the second time I listened to it, I liked it a lot more. I think the initial problem is that it sounded like his first couple polkas he did...it didnt have much oomf where there should have been.
Not his best, but it definitely has its moments, and it has grown on me considerably.

Good, I'm glad I'm not the first one that noticed that. It kinda had a "polka medley by the numbers" feeling to it. But there are enough good sections (especially "Drop It Like It's Hot") make it worthwhile.
Steve's mixes, lookie!

Candy Shop was by far the best part of the polka....overall, it really didn't do it for me, but then again when I heard the listing, I couldn't even see half of those songs working as polkas. And they didn't.
I made the call the first time I heard Hot Fuss back in 2004 that there'd be a Killers appearance on the next album, although I was expecting a Brightside parody.

I'd be willing to say that the polka drags the album down. It did for me, anyway. (If it wasnt for the immediate joke in the next track, I would have spent the whole time thinking about how I wished the polka was better for the rest of the album)richegreen @ Sep 8 2006, 06:23 AM wrote: Candy Shop was by far the best part of the polka....overall, it really didn't do it for me, but then again when I heard the listing, I couldn't even see half of those songs working as polkas. The polka isnt horrible...candy shop like you said is great. But a few of the songs (killers, franz ferdinand) just sit there as Al sings the lyrics, before painfully going to the next track. Almost every other polka has a better flow than this one, with songs like speed of sound getting long exposure and Feel Good Inc and Drop It Like Its Hot barely getting in there at all.
On top of the polka just being stagnent, Al fumbles with the ending, which is something he NEVER does in polkas. Golddigger could have been a fantastic ending, but the way he recorded it, it sounds so safe and lacks all the punch of the original. As much as I despertley want to love this song, I can do nothing but hope it grows on me some more. I really dont think the songs couldnt have been polkafied under any circumstancs, but Al didnt do much to make me believe that.
