Oh, yeah... DVD players... I watch all my DVDs on my computer... Maybe I'll try it on my parent's DVD player... I dunno.

I hate to say this, but...if you replace "Do I Creep You Out?" with "You're Pitiful," this is Al's best album since Running With Scissors. Nevertheless, it's still very good; a little better than Poodle Hat.

That's exactly why he does what he does. And there's nothing wrong with that. He's got a wife, a child, a dog, and a bird to feed.

You're right, there is nothing wrong with that. But I would have to disagree.

Only speaking from myself, I think he does what he does because it's his passion. It's wonderful that he's successful and can support his wife and family doing what he loves. If it was about making money to pay the bills, he might have taken an easier road and just become an architect.

Same with Jim West and Steve Jay. I don't think you can play the kind of music they play without it coming from the heart.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. *shrugs shoulders*

Al's the furthest thing from an egomaniac. The first time I saw him backstage that was the thing that really stood out in my mind. He was perfectly happy to be having a quiet conversation with one person while other conversations were going on all around him. He doesn't have the need to be the center of attention all the time. He IS a perfectionist, of course. And remember, Suzanne shot that footage, but Al edited it. So in that "put it back a millisecond, put it forward a millisecond" bit, I think Al's poking a little fun at his own perfectionism.
Also, Al's not only the singer/songwriter/musician/bandleader, he's also the album producer. That's a lot of stuff most artists who don't produce themselves don't have to deal with. Al just has a huge stake in making his stuff as good as it can be. And I think he does a pretty darn good job!

One way is just to hit "Quote" and read it in the quote box, where it will show up with the tags showing the font size instead of the tiny script.
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

OE, you're truly a genius. ;)

Crazygurl, I have never thought Al makes music simply to pay the bills...it HELPS tremendously that he is such a wonderful musician, because he's never really had to worry about money, and it's one of the things I love about Al. He has a gorgeous house in the Hills, presumably a decent car, and never seems to be stressed or worried about where his next paycheck is coming from. I find it so humble and decent of Al to never shove his wealth in anyone's face, as so many other celebrities do. If Al had never "hit it big," would he still make music just for fun? It's really hard to say, but I'd lean towards a yes. He wouldn't have the tools he has now, and his music might not have been circulated in the fashion it is now...but watching the Al in the studio video just emphasizes to me the time and care and inborn musical talent (that's something you either have or you don't) Al puts into every ALbum he makes...he could've tried to be an architect, but I couldn't see him lasting long...anyone who tries to suppress their true destiny THAT much will inevitably feel empty inside...I know other performance artists who tried manual labor jobs or even jobs such as engineering who just weren't satisfied with the kind of life they were living as a "such and such."

Long story short, your father is certainly entitled to his opinion, but if he chooses to make snap judgments based on a couple of things Al does/says, well, he's not seeing the full picture. If there was any way to ever get him to one of Al's live shows, especially one with a meet and greet...he might change his opinion. I honestly felt differently, full of deeper respect for Al by the time my first concert was over, and for me, it was life changing. I guess what I'm trying to say is, Don't lose heart. Not everyone close to you will feel the same way about Al that you do, but they aren't you, and individuality is a beautiful thing. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. :)
You know you're in a commune of Al love here, so if you aren't at home, just hop on the boards...works every time.. :Y

Wow, SG, that was a really nice post, and I'm sure crazygurl will feel much better after reading it. I agree, too. Al doesn't just do what he does to pay the bills. He does it because he loves it. As a result, he gets the bonus of meeting with all us fans, something he says he really enjoys. So it's a win-win situation for him. He keeps himself and his family going, while doing something he loves.
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!
