I think it has more to do with the people who are most distressed by it having personal experience dealing with small injured animals (Squirrelygirl does wildlife rehab). Fortunately, most people have no real-life close-range experience of violent homicide.weirdojace @ Oct 8 2006, 03:47 AM wrote: I just find it funny that people have no problem with Al stabbing his boss in the face or stuffing Larry into a big plastic bag, but if he stomps on a weasel they get all offended.
Just like PETA, no respect for people.

"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

Did I say they looked alike?Bob Rozga @ Oct 8 2006, 05:10 AM wrote: Weasels are not squirrels. They look nothing alike.

All I meant was that people who had hands-on experience with caring for any injured small animals would likely find "Weasel Stomping Day" too evocative of distressing memories.

Anyone been to www.petakillsanimals.com?
I personally think WSD is a fantastic song, and I love the sound FX.

Has anyone figured out when Weasel Stomping Day is?
In the scene during the video where the dad busts in and the kids pop out of bed, there's a calender on the wall with days X'ed off, so it should be the first day that isn't Xed off. But i can't see it on my TV, nor can i play the DVD on my computer.

You hit it right on the head there OE. On the video, where the weasel is surrounded by the circle of people (right after you see the guy in the PETA shirt), the shaky attempt to lift it's head, I have seen that exact gesture in real life when one of my ferrets was very elderly and ill. At that point I had to make the decision to euthanize for the first time, and it was a very difficult thing to go through. So one can understand the wincing I did the first couple of times I saw it. Now the song is growing on me, because the tune is just so darned catchy.Orthography Enthusiast @ Oct 8 2006, 06:14 AM wrote: All I meant was that people who had hands-on experience with caring for any injured small animals would likely find "Weasel Stomping Day" too evocative of distressing memories.
I think the main difference between this song and all the many other violent references in Al's songs is simply the fact that most of the others are isolated one line references. Here it's the entire song, there's no getting around the subject, no filler to let you forget.
Impatiently waiting for July 13th, Brady Theater, Tulsa, OK
