Top Drummers of All Time

Post by TMBJon »

Hey Jon, thanks so much for taking questions. This is really awesome!

How would you rank the all time greatest drummers list? Do you have a top five?

Terms like greatest and best are extremely subjective, and it's not possible to reconcile someone else's list (I've seen many, and I really don't agree with any.) My favorite and most influential players would have to include Ringo, Hal Blaine, Gene Krupa, and all of Zappa's and Tull's drummers. that's a lot of old school, but drumming really hasn't changed much in the last 50 years. There are some amazing technicians today, but fireworks aside, nobody's really doing anything new. The drumming that drove the hits of yesteryear is pretty much the same that drives todays hits, only the sounds and overall production tend to differ.

This is why today's 'kids' dance to the hits of the '60s and '70s... what was good then, is still good now.
