Re: [spoiler][lyrics] Handy
This is definitely a very funny song, but I agree that it's not "lead single" funny. I did chuckle throughout, however.
Oh by the way, I've cracked the code.

Wait so I was stupid for mentioning jay z? I didn't see it mentioned. So I thought I'd make a clear connection since switch rhymes with bitch.jacobpacek wrote:Yes, everyone knows that song, thank you. But what we're saying is that in Ariana Grande's "Problem," Iggy herself raps "I got 99 problems but you won't be one." In "Problem," it's a clear reference to the Jay-Z song, while in "Handy" (in my opinion) it is a reference to Problem.Well, Well, Well wrote:99 Problems: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwoM5fLITfk&feature=kp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Also, it wouldn't really make sense for Al to reference Jay-Z in a non-Jay-Z parody..
I'm glad that there's a deeper meaning tho that's great.

I guess you didn't. But to me it just seemed like you posting the link to the music video was your way of saying that it was not a reference to Problem.Well, Well, Well wrote:When did I say that I didn't understand your point?

Re: [spoiler][lyrics] Handy
At the end of "Isle Thing," Al says "Hasta la vista, little buddy!"
Someone who didn't know any better might somewhat reasonable assume that that line was influenced by Arnold Schwartzeneggar saying "Hasta la vista, baby" in Terminator 2. Of course, Terminator 2 came out after UHF, and the line "Hasta la vista, baby" actually came from the original song, "Wild Thing." But somebody could easily make that mistake because at this point the line is much more well known as the Terminator catch phrase. And actually, the line originated in a Jody Watley song even before "Wild Thing," but again Terminator is far more well known.
Relevance?
Al's use of "99 Problems but a switch ain't one" is a clear and definite reference to the Jay-Z song. The fact that Arianna Grande used a variation on it as well speaks to the popularity of Jay-Z's song. I'm sure there have been many other references to that line throughout pop culture. As WWW pointed out, the choice of the word "switch" there was intentional because it rhymes with "bitch" from the original line. Otherwise he could have pulled any of the words from "Hardware Store" to put in that spot.

Yes, Al's line is a direct reference to Jay-Z's song (bitch ain't one/switch ain't one) - but I believe it's also a slight reference to one of Iggy Azalea's lines in a previous song ("Problem") which is "I got 99 problems but you won't be one." I personally don't see why Al would reference an artist (other than the one he's parodying) in a parody. But I have my opinions and others have theirs and that's fine.Bruce the Duck wrote:At the end of "Isle Thing," Al says "Hasta la vista, little buddy!"

I agree with you. The lyric does work better with the Jay Z original, but the line is given a lot more relevance when you consider her use of it in "Problem."jacobpacek wrote: Yes, Al's line is a direct reference to Jay-Z's song (bitch ain't one/switch ain't one) - but I believe it's also a slight reference to one of Iggy Azalea's lines in a previous song ("Problem") which is "I got 99 problems but you won't be one." Re: [spoiler][lyrics] Handy
I think Al's playing it smart by not hedging his bets on this one and saying there's no lead single.
I'm not saying it's bad by any stretch, just with everything else slotted in place, this would've had to have been perfect to be a traditional lead, and I don't think it's there.
Video could change that and Fancy's continued popularity could sway things, but it's not what I would look at as the next big thing.

You have quickly thought up such matchless phrase?
