I think this song needed some solid sports references. to me it just seems like a fight song either for people who hate or love sports. also lack of support for local sports teams is what's killing America. I don't live in California, but I'm curious to know if Al is a noted supporter of any teams out there.

this video is perhaps the funniest video I've seen as a sports fan. young's final remark about d'antoni is one of the funniest things I've ever heard from an athlete. also it's hilarious (and relevant to weird al) because young makes some hilariously inappropriate "innuendo" at Iggy Azalea's ass.

In the case of college sports however, I think there is a much deeper connection between the team and the fans. While in some cases you do have fans who are just what many call "t-shirt fans" who didn't attend the school (and who I would consider the same as a pro sports fan), there are also those who did. These fans spent some pretty important years of their lives at the school, transitioning from child to adult and often discovering a lot about themselves in the process. During that time, the players for the sports team were doing the exact same thing and it's not that uncommon to cross paths with them in daily college life. There is an enormous personal connection to these institutions and everything about them that cannot really be adequately explained to anyone who hasn't experienced it. That's where the passion for college sports comes from. I mean, my wife and I will literally cheer for anyone and anything connected to Ohio State, be it one of the school's sports teams (or individual athletes) or an alum on Jeopardy! It's simply a part of us.

I'm a big sports fan, but college sports just don't do it for me at all. Much of that reason is that I never went to college (Shocking, I know ) and I have no horse in the race. I'll keep an ear out for the big names since most of them will be big names in the pros, but come Saturdays in the fall when college football starts, I zone out completely and wait for the real thing on Sundays (As for basketball, I don't care much for the NBA, so college basketball is even worse for me).

Anyway, I had no idea what to expect for this song going in, and yet this song was everything I expected (And yes, I have no idea how that makes any sense, just go with it) at the same time. I actually quite loved it.

I think the problem some people have with this song is ultimately just it's placement. My guess is if it was further down the album like Weasel Stomping Day was, it would be better

You've actually got a really good point. I have been skipping over this song a lot already and when I start a listen-through, the last thing I want to be doing is killing my groove thing by having to skip a song so early into the album.
