Something tells me this is going to be like Fat -- The song itself is okay, but the video pushes it over into classic territory.

Re: Handy
I think this song works very well as a lead single. It's very clever and fun to listen to. I mean, I love the fact that he snuck "Let me be your stripper" in there and made it work! People forget that Al didn't always start off albums with pop culture movements before, and they aren't all "Couch Potato" calibur when he does that.

After listening a couple more times, it's definitely grown on me. Still would rather see the video with it before I have a final verdict.

I decided to check out the Happy music video before I bought this album, and both songs sound great.
When I heard about Iggy Pop being surprised she wouldn't get a licensing fee, I wondered if she'd then deny permission. I'm glad she didn't. It seems like most of Al's lead singles since Bad Hair Day have had some sort of controversy, and I wondered if this was the lead single. While Al says there is not lead single this time, this song is the first song, and the first songs are usually intended as the lead single.

While I hope this is true, id say that 'fat people' are intrinsically funnier than plumbers, especially when they are dancing.Mystik Tomato wrote:Something tells me this is going to be like Fat -- The song itself is okay, but the video pushes it over into classic territory.

I don't know - the janitor in "Smells Like Nirvana" was really a plumber. And he was pretty damn funny.Well, Well, Well wrote:While I hope this is true, id say that 'fat people' are intrinsically funnier than plumbers, especially when they are dancing.Mystik Tomato wrote:Something tells me this is going to be like Fat -- The song itself is okay, but the video pushes it over into classic territory.

But I agree with both of you. "Fat" is actually a funny song on its own, regardless of the video. "Handy" isn't that funny. But I'm confident that some good sight gags will help raise it up to a higher level in my own eyes.
