Some parts were amazing, some were meh. Overall, I give them a 6.5/10Wizzerkat wrote:Let's stop the grammar and usage "discussions" to watch the a capella version of Word Crimes you didn't know you might need:

Re: Word Crimes
I agree with your assessment. It was pretty good, but I have heard better. More of these types of things will pop up I think. Word Crimes is a good song for this type of thing.

It seems like maybe they need to work on learning the lyrics a little better. Started pretty rough, got a little better.

I'm with Grom. Can there just be a separate thread for discussions of proper grammar usage and linguistics versus discussion about the actual song "Word Crimes?" I also find myself skipping most of these posts, no offense.Grom wrote:I should just stop reading this topic; I skip everything you guys say as it is.

RE: The video Wizzerkat posted: The guy 4th over from the left was the best at rapping, and should have done the line describing a contraction. Seemed like some lyrics dropped off. Like others have said, they could have done better, but I applaud them for trying.

Re: Word Crimes
What else exactly is going on in the Word Crimes thread that the grammar discussion would need to be moved somewhere else? I'm not reading the debate thoroughly either, but it might as well be in this thread. No one is forcing you to read it, or are they?mrmeadows wrote:I'm with Grom. I don't know, but it's not really a big deal. I've just been scrolling past most of this, which I can continue doing. It's just whenever I see a new post here I anxiously click on it only to be disappointed that it's yet another long dissertation tracing words back to their "earliest reconstructable Proto-Indo-European roots." When that happens, it makes me want to do this:TMBJon wrote:What else exactly is going on in the Word Crimes thread that the grammar discussion would need to be moved somewhere else? :mrmeadows wrote:I'm with Grom. Note this isn't a slam on those who ARE fascinated with such a discussion. That's great. It's just that personally I come into this thread looking for posts directly related to Al and the song, like the a capella clip above.
But again, not a big deal. Just another #FirstWorldProblem.

Re: Word Crimes
Haha, someone on youtube is trying to say that writing "Weird Al" Yankovic with the quotes around "Weird Al" is incorrect. This is under the "Word Crimes" video. What?? He says that writing it that way implies that his name is just Yankovic. Here is a quote "If he wants to be grammatically correct, he should probably call himself either "Weird" Al Jankovic or Alfred "Weird Al" Jankovic". I only posted 2 replies, and there has been no response to the second. I'm done. As far as spelling Al's last name "Jankovic", he said he was using the European spelling. Whatevs.
