Yep, he is! I bet he might even play some songs before the album is complete!

Dr. Demento has aired songs before their release in the past, but would anyone know how far from the album's release would he do it?

July 2002, so about ten months before the release of "Poodle Hat."

As far as when DrD would premiere yet-to-be-released songs, there doesn't seem to be any pattern to it. Sometimes he would start playing a song a good couple of months before an album's release, sometimes maybe just the weekend before.

Ultimately it most likely all comes down to whatever Al's comfortable with, when he's able to send new tracks to the show, or maybe even some authorization from the label first. It might be a good Ask Al question to find out what all needs to happen for DrD to air a song early.

:D Remember, I wasn't around for the release of Poodle Hat. I became obsessed with his royal weirdness in the summer of '04. I didn't know how soon information was leaked for his album. I also had forgotten that it was released in '03, and for some reason thought it was just last year. My mind has gone out the window this weekend!

Personally, even if Dr. D DID play some of Al's songs before the release of his album, I probably wouldn't listen to them. I'll learn everything I can about the names of the songs, the lyrics, and who he's paroding, but I've already made a vow to not listen to any songs until I have the album in my hands....or actually, in a stereo. :P

That's a good rule to have, but if it helps to be the devil's advocate for a sec, remember that Al allowing DrD to play a song early is not a "spoiler" at all, so in theory it shouldn't ruin listening to the album for you...but I do know what you're saying.

I think it's possible that I'll Sue You is about a restraining order, or what was mentioned back there, about the Hot Coffee at McDonalds Incident....

Speaking of which, do you think there's any chance about Al releasing a song about the other recent Hot Coffee incident? :F

How long ago was that? "Seinfeld" already spoofed that like a decade ago. Not too current. I think if that song is indeed a reality, it will be directed more at the general "I'll Sue You" mentality of America, rather than on any specific incidents.
