I'm trying to tell if "American Slob" is a parody... I can't tell. It sounds slightly familiar. I can't post the actual song, but I can post the lyrics to see if they seem familiar if someone cares to read them.

EDIT: I wanna add something to the unreleased list - it's an early version of "Polkas On 45". Considerably slower, longer, and very echoey. But I can't identify all of the original artists - can someone help? The tracklist is below...

* "Jocko Homo" (Devo)
* "Smoke On The Water" (Deep Purple)
* "Der Komissar" (After The Fire??)
* "Sex (I'm A)" (Berlin) - the 'I'm a slut' version
* "Hey Jude" (Beatles)
* "LA Woman" (Doors)
* "In A Gadda Da Vida" (Iron Butterfly)
* "Hey Joe" (Jimi Hendrix)
* "1999" (Prince) - 'tonight we're gonna yodel like it's 1999', and he does!
* "Bad Boys Get Spanked" (?)
* "Hot Blooded" (Foreigner)
* "Bubbles In The Wine" - twice as long as on the album version
* "Every Breath You Take" (Police)
* "She Blinded Me With Science" (Thomas Dolby)
* "Stairway To Heaven" (Led Zeppelin)

Pretenders

And I would guess that After the Fire is right. It was originally written by Falco, but that version was never a hit in the US.

Yes, After The Fire is correct.

Shouldn't you credit "Bubbles in the Wine" to Lawrence Welk?

Added "Rocky Road Hoochie Koo". (God help us.)

I prefer Bob Rivers' "Rock & Roll Scooby Doo"....

You may also be interested in this little tidbit of info about Airline Amy. Here's a quote from Weird Al about it.

"Airline Amy" was actually inspired by a couple of songs that I heard by Nick Lowe and Jonathan Richman.

Found it in the Ask Al archives, so perhaps Switchboard Susan really WAS one of his inspirations.

Oh, I'm almost certain it was. The titles are similar, and it's just a similar sounding song overall. Not sure about Jonathan Richman, though...

I'm nearly 100% sure that "Talk Soup" is a style parody of "Superstitious" by Stevie Wonder. The trumpets in the song sound almost exactly the same.
