I was gonna do Ebay, I even had it approved. But no one wanted to do my backing vocals. I tried pre-recording them on a tape, but it came out really cruddy.

I pre-recorded them on top of a karaoke version of the original. (I'm good with Cool Edit Pro...)

Yeah, that's what I did, but I was just using a karaoke machine's tape deck. I don't have Cool Edit or anything fancy.

Two days to the performance. I'm excited.

Good luck, yo!
Well...my school talent show is coming very soon, and I plan to do Ebay. I recorded my "karaoke version" a few days ago, and I'm all ready!
This wouldn't happen to be that modified MIDI file you sent me would it? Because that would sound a bit better than just "ripping" out the vocals. Trust me, anything done by the Backstreet Boys always has reverbs and fancy vocal engineering involved, and the karaoke versions are just as useless. Either way, you're stuck with the chorus lines and it would be mighty hard to sing over that and have the audience understand you at the same time.
That's when MIDI-to-WAV programs come in handy... All you do is find the MIDI file you want, take out the corny oboe or clarinet track and convert the crudely sounding MIDI file into something a bit more tolerable and you've got your self a "Poor Man's Instrumental"
I say "Poor Man's Instrumental" because that's my name for it and really, it's a lot easier to find the MIDI version of any song and convert it to a .wav file with the proper soundfonts and voila, instant instrumental for a future potential parody or in this case, live performance at a talent show or karaoke bar, since we're talking about performing Al's songs.

Have any of you performed a song Al has parodied but had the lyrics to Al's renditio in your head at the time? That happened to me at Open Mic Night tonight.

Whee, I'm resurrecting the topic...
I tried out for "Ebay" today. All went well until I blanked out and cussed in front of the teacher.
*sigh* I'm not gonna make it after this...
