This is definitely more of a "clever rhymes in place of the original lyrics are kind of funny" type of song like "My Bologna" or what have you.
I don't really think much of the parodies on Alpocalypse was meant to be funny either. TMZ wasn't really funny it was just listing all the crazy things about TMZ and with Miley Cyrus Party In The CIA was obviously not a funny song either. I don't think funny really matters. I for one think the song is hilarious at some points but I don't Al's job is to be funny all the time.quantumerror wrote: But IMO, I just don't see how this is supposed to be funny. Did I miss something? It's basically a list of things that contractors can do, without a trace of jokes.
Not really lol.bryce87 wrote:the 99 problems is a reference to Iggy's rap verse in Ariana Grandae's "Problem Song" Iggy says "I've got 99 problems but you won't be one like what."
I actually thought the same thing. I think it could be a nod to "Problem" - and if it's just a coincidence, it's a pretty good one!TMBJon wrote:Not really lol.bryce87 wrote:the 99 problems is a reference to Iggy's rap verse in Ariana Grandae's "Problem Song" Iggy says "I've got 99 problems but you won't be one like what."
Yes, everyone knows that song, thank you. But what we're saying is that in Ariana Grande's "Problem," Iggy herself raps "I got 99 problems but you won't be one." In "Problem," it's a clear reference to the Jay-Z song, while in "Handy" (in my opinion) it is a reference to Problem.Well, Well, Well wrote:99 Problems: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwoM5fLITfk&feature=kp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
While my first reaction was to roll my eyes and think "Kids..." when you brought up "Problem," I think you're right. Actually, I think both sides are right. Al's line is clearly a direct parody of Jay-Z's line, and including it in an Iggy parody is a nod to her using it in another incredibly popular song. Al almost always has multiple layers of reference in his lyrics, which is why he's so much better at this than everyone else.jacobpacek wrote: But what we're saying is that in Ariana Grande's "Problem," Iggy herself raps "I got 99 problems but you won't be one." Also, it wouldn't really make sense for Al to reference Jay-Z in a non-Jay-Z parody..
