But once you have granted permission for someone to cover your song, that opens the gates for any other artists to do the same. Remember there's a difference between "cover" (what Madonna wanted to do to AP) and "parody" (which Al did to AP SO well...). Wasn't Don McLean's refusal based on the fact he wasn't a Madonna fan, and didn't like what she was going to do to the song, IIRC?

You know what'd be awesome?

Is if Al did this song live, splitting it up into chapters, and doing one chapter at a time. Like do chapter 1 somewhere in the beginning, chapter 2 after the medley, and chapter 3 right before the encore.
