Re: Handy
The video is really nothing to write home about, though it grew on me a little on the second viewing. There are a few good gags, for sure. I like what happens for the line "I'm fully bonded, no need to be nervous."
It's definitely made on the cheap, and not just the cheap commercial parody look they were going for. Almost all of the sets other than the garage are digitally composited. The animation is done by Cris Shapan, who also did the Whatever You Like video.
I could see this song coming into its own in a live setting, but this video alone isn't enough to push Handy into "classic Weird Al song" territory.
Looking forward to Conan tonight!

I think the rise of low-budget Weird Al videos might have (among other factors) have something to do with more videos being made for each album. Before Straight outta Lynwood, you would get 1-2 Videos per album. Now it's 8-12 videos per album, meaning the budgets are speard out more. That's my theory at least. What do you guys think?

Re: Handy
Al did an Interview with Kindle (download here: http://www.amazon.com/Weird-Al-Yankovic ... B00LNMY8NE" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) where he talks about how "Perform This Way" was the last video his record label agreed to pay for. All of the videos from "Mandatory Fun", I guess, are coming out of his pocket, so it makes sense he doesn't want to blow all the money on one video.
Also, am I the only one who doesn't think this video is bad? Low budget, sure, but not bad!

I'd rank this between Foil and Tacky.

It's got more going for it than Bob or Pancreas.

I don't think the video is bad. I found it entertaining. I found it less entertaining than Tacky and Word Crimes, but I liked it. It did scream low budget to me, but that was just because of what he was going for.

*snort* Pancreas was friggin' TERRIBLE.
Bob was different, because it nailed the video parody target dead on.
