I think you need to convince me it's not a parody by either finding a source that says so, or finding the name of the fifth parody artist.

Well Al said i n the Walmart radio interview that he would not parody WATW. U?nless he was just trying to throw us off.

I doubt Al would put Green Day, Usher, or R Kelly into his press release for Chamillionaire if he hadn't secured the permissions yet. I think it's more likely a situation like the one described in the Permanent Record liner notes about Livin' In The Fridge. He was just waiting for the last artist to get back to him so he could get into the studio ASAP.

I kinda doubt that Al gave Chamillionaire a "press release" for the album at all. He doesn't want a lot of information leaked to the public/fans so early. It's more likely that when he was seeking permission (and you know he ALWAYS talks directly to the artist these days - since the Coolio incident), Chamillionaire casually asked what other artists he's parodying, and Al shared those three with him.

I didn't listen to the Walmart interview. Did he specifically say he wouldn't parody WATW by name, or did he say something more generic like, "I probably wouldn't do a parody of a benefit song." ?

That's how I explain the other song recorded yesterday. They were waiting on permission from someone. Remember back when weirdal.com said something like 11 songs had been recorded but they weren't sure if it was complete or there would be another song? Well, I think at that point there was a deadline of June 27 and there was still one parody written, but not recorded yet because it was being held up by permission. So the wasn't sure whether they would get permission with enough time left to record the parody and get it on the album. Whether they did secure the permission in time or not, the "You're Pitiful" fiasco made the date they finally got permission irrelevent. And since they knew they had to go back and record a new lead parody anyway, they held off recording the other parody so they could use the same studio time to do both.

So, short answer, I think the other 7-22-06 song is either the Usher, R. Kelly, or Green Day song.

Also, I think Chamillionaire got some kind of "advance" promotional or press material, because his opening sentence of his MySpace bulletin about how Al had parodied such big names as Madonna, Michael Jackson, U2, blah blah blah, pretty much was word for word what we used on the Walk of Fame application.

I, along with Dave, would like to find out the exact question and answer addressing the "We Are The World" situation in this WalMart interview.

This is a quote from the "Straight Outta Lynwood" thread:
Elvis wrote: Another thing I just noticed is that for PH, as the songs were recorded, the Players page had listed all the people who worked on the album with a generic 'worked with Al on album 11' text, but that hasn't happened for SOL. Hmmmm.....

That's an interesting point. It's entirely possible that Bermuda just hasn't bothered updating that page yet. But assuming that DDTS is legit (be it a parody or style parody), then if Al DID get some guest artists to perform on the song, he'd probably want to keep those artists under wraps until closer to the album's release. So perhaps that's exactly why Bermuda hasn't updated that page yet.

I never got to hear the interview myself (it was too much of a pain to download), but here is the original link to the page that had it:

http://downloads.walmart.com/swap

Evidently one just needs to search for Al's name and download all the necessary stuff.

OK, it isn't letting me download. But anyone who has this audio interview who would care to transcribe it will be rewarded handsomely with the smiley of my choice.

When asked if he considered any artists off limits to parody..

"Obviously you'd probably stay away from like charity benefit songs, or people that recently had a personal tragedy, or you kind of use your own common sense about it. But in general, the answer is people should be able to take a joke."

I have the interview uploaded on my website. Do you think it would be ok to share the link here, or would that be against WOWAY's file sharing policy?
