Well, since Al is only vegetarian, I would think he may still wear leather, but when I still wore it I generally tried to stay away from it as much as possible. So, I don't know.

I'll probably send you and email message and try to get a decent pic of myself to send along too. I was going to do a little cross-stitch card but I can't find my book that has the pattern and I wouldn't be able to get it done in time to get it out to you anyway. Since I'm sending him a gift anyway, I might try to get the card done for that if I can find the book or another one similiar to it.

I have a card purchased already and a photo of myself to go with it. I have to think of something else to go with it now. I think that even if I can't come up with a gift, he might appreciate my card with the special note I'm going to include in it.
What do y'all think?

I'm sure Al will appreciate anything you send him! One of the reasons I love him is because he's so down-to-earth and appreciative of everything the fans do for him.

I managed to find a "Happy Birthday" cross-stitch pattern online. I'm going to do the lettering in the Al-Team colors, the "Happy Birthday" in bright green and "48th" in purple but there's also a "cake" in the pattern and I don't know what colors to do it in. There's two sections, the "cake" part and a layer of "icing" so I need 2 colors. I don't want to do the same colors as the lettering because I want to give it some variety. Any suggestions? I still won't be able to get it done in time to include in the book but I want to start working on it soon, just in case I mess up the first card and have to do it over for some reason.

So does everyone think I should stay away from leather? That would be a real shame as those diaries are really cool.

Maybe you could email Bermuda, tell him about the birthday book and the journals, and ask him if Al has an ethical problem with leather. I would think he'd know. If Al doesn't, then I say get the journals!

The journals do seem cool. I'm trying to think of what to do since I already wrote a personal letter for the 1,000 show, but I think I'll make this one apply to Al more.
