At the signing today we met a girl dressed up as Fiona, Shrek's love interest (yes, she was green) who said she met Al in the grocery store, buying stuff to smoosh to make the weasel-stomping noises. I forget what all she said he got, but I think it included cucumbers and corn chips. Small world, eh?

I haven't gotten to the special features of the ALbum yet.

But I have listened to most of the songs at least five times so far.

Except for a couple songs ... Trapped in a Drive Thru ... and this one.

These I have listened to at least ten times each.

This is EASILY my second favorite song on the ALbum (and I laughed with glee at the video when I finally got to see it) ... and it could easily move up to the number one spot (shouldn't be a problem if I manage to 'remember' that Al totally stole my whole "oh" thing in that other song!).

I LOVE this song!

(my fiance does NOT share my enthusiasm .... whateva ... hey sweetie, can I stomp on your weasle? ... and do I creep you out??)

The line about the guts just makes me laugh hysterically.

(nope, I am not a PETA member)

No middle ground in this song. Either you love it or hate it. Young 'uns, birdies and vegetables represent!

I finally heard the whole song at home, and it's one of those songs that for me, gets completely turned around and redeemed (see related subject "The subtlety of Weird Al"). In this case, it's the line, "It's tradition, that makes it okay." That's a line that just sets you back on your haunches and makes you think. This song has a subtext that is completely different, and completely serious. It also has mayonnaise on the lawn. I just LOVE mayonnaise on the lawn. :D

Ah! Someone else noticed the fact that there are less stomps in the actual song than there are in the video. I didn't think I was crazy(er than usual).

Yes, but I've also noticed that the extra stomps in the video are different from the ones in the normal song. They don't have the squeky weasel noise, just the crunching noise. I think those bits were extra sounds added by Seth Green and crew. Still, though, I'd like to have a copy of that version.

I'm sorry, but there is nothing better than the part of the AiTS video than the part where Suzanne hears the new weasel noises for the first time, and Al just collapses into laughter... :inlove:

Guess which of the following things were mentioned in Weird Al songs:

A: Stomping a poodle until it was flat
B: Torturing Rats with a hacksaw
C: Giving a mohawk to your cat
D: Pulling the wings off of flies
E: None of these, Al would never sing such things
F: All of the above and none of them should be taken any more seriously than "Weasel Stomping Day"

If you guessed F, good.

If not, you may want to ask yourself what you're so upset about. If a goofy song like Nature Trail to Hell didn't bother you, but a goofy song like Weasel Stomping Day did....you probably need a little help.
Hi there,

I do like the song and get this type of demented humor. But, c'mon ... declaring a holiday for everyone to stomp weasels 'til they're dead is much worse than Al's other songs which included various animal cruelty references. The squish sound effects pushes this song even more in this, "I think he's gone too far" area. I'm not an animal rights extremist, but even this song bothered me. I don't think I've ever heard this type of humor carried out quite this far before in a song; I think that's the reason it bothered me. I didn't care much for "The Night Santa Went Crazy" for the same reason. Rudolph tastes like chicken? oooooh... disturbing; but, I let it go since the song was about Santa Clause totally losing it. Even those other songs which you quoted from all were themed around dysfunctional characters Al was singing about. "Weasel Stomping Day" is different when compared to these other song examples.

I'm still finding the song a bit hard to take too, actually. I can handle the stomping noises better than I can the lyrical references to crunching spines and skulls. But this is a song with a fairly subtle point... like "Why Does This Always Happen To Me?" which takes deadly aim at the sort of egotism that hardens the heart, Al is digging up one of the principal roots of cruelty and laying it out in the sunlight, on the mayonnaise-covered lawn, when he says that stomping weasels is okay because it's tradition.

Exactly. And really how much more brutal is it to stomp a bunch of weasels than it is to butcher millions of turkeys every Thanksgiving? :F
